Chapter 7

When the night passed, with a lull in the blizzard, Marissa walked into the living room and saw Jackson remained in the same position on the sofa. A pile of old journals covering the twelve-year period of his relationship and disappearance rested on the table in front of him. Sometime during the night, he had added a pad full of notes along with a pen. Stretched out on the length of the sofa, he had fallen asleep, the last journal across his chest. Accepting Jackson’s presence, Snow slept on the floor instead of with his mistress.

Letting the dragon sleep, she whistled softly to the husky. She saw his ears flick before his eyes opened. Patting a hand on her leg, she let him outside to run and prance in the snow before doing his business. She went to the kitchen to dish out his breakfast, set up the coffeemaker and a teakettle.

Moving back to the living room, she leaned against a column and stared at her guest. An admiring perusal went from the top of his rich red hair, with highlights of gold that caught the flicker of the flames, down his powerful but lanky body to his feet. He was long, at least six feet or more in height and most of it was his legs. He’d also removed his sweater, she could now admire his broad shoulders. Then there were the strong muscles packed under the golden skin, across the pectorals with the darker nipples pebbled against the soft coating of reddish body hair, and down the pronounced abdomen.

Licking lips in appreciation of the elegant lines of those delineated muscles that filled his core, she saw the glory trail of red curls disappear into the low waistband of his jeans. Even in his sleep, she enjoyed the delicious bulge under the zipper. The slim hips aligned under his shoulders and she remembered the fine ass cupped in the jeans from last night.

Those long fingered hands belonged to an artist or musician and not a warrior, but they were calloused to tell her he performed hard work, gripped a sword, or some other physical work. Still, she had a feeling they would be sensitive and delicate dancing across a woman’s skin.

Closing her eyes, Marissa smiled at the thought of those fingers gracing her body, tracing the curves and lines. His weight would be sturdy and substantial, but not enough to knock the breath out of her. She wondered what he would be like in bed. It had been a while since she’d had a lover.

Strolling forward, she trailed fingers over the back of the sofa while she moved to where his head rested. She stopped when he let out a murmur and shifted. Auburn locks fell away from his forehead and the wicked, jagged mess of tissue that twisted his temple. Reaching down, she traced the scar.

Carefully, she let her magic come forth to read the memory of the tissue and injury. Her eyes closed as the images came.
